Welcome To The Official Blog Of Adamawa Ministry Of Information

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has tasked the FCT Transport Secretariat to fast-track road markings and the installation of directional signs at major roads in the Territory. This, the Minister stressed, is necessary to make our roads easily navigable and safer.

The Minister gave this charge when he embarked on a tour of the Transport Secretariat and its allied agencies.

In keeping with his Administration’s focus on service efficiency, Malam Bello, while addressing the management tasked the Secretariat on the urgent need for the modernization of the business process of the Secretariat and its various agencies. This, he said, is with a view to achieving a cutting edge, operationally efficient and technological sound operational architecture.

Malam Bello visited the dumpsite for impounded tricycles in Durumi, the Auto Pond and Recycling Plant in Gosa as well as the Taskforce Area Command in Wuye. He directed the Secretariat to digitalize the documentation of scrapped vehicles for efficient data management and accountability while harping on the necessity to keep the dumpsites clean.

He charged officers to always give owners of impounded vehicles enough chance to come forward to claim the seized vehicles before they are scrapped. This he said was necessary to ensure observance of Rule of Law.

The Minister challenged the management to be more innovative, financially, prudent and resourceful in order to meet the demands of transportation management in a growing city like Abuja.

Earlier in his welcome remark at the occasion, the Mandate Secretary, Transport Secretariat, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, informed the Minister that the Secretariat was working to reposition the Secretariat for a more efficient operation. Opeifa underscored the critical role of transportation in the effort of the government to revitalize the economy.

His words, “Transportation and mobility are the life-wire of any city and no government can afford to toy with it.”

The Secretariat, he disclosed is seeking the permission of the FCT Minister for the addition of the Department of Policy and Planning as a central command centre for evolving transportation policies in the Territory. The Secretariat he said has five Departments for now, namely, Departments of Transportation, Engineering, Road Traffic Services, Bus Rapid Transport, and Administration and Finance.

He gave credit to great work that the Engineering Department of the Secretariat has done to ensure the conclusion of the phase one of the FCT Light Rail Project. Saying that the project has been for most of the staff of the Secretariat a good channel of technology transfer.

He said the Secretariat is saddled with the mandate for transportation planning, policy and execution. Others include ensuring that all necessary transport infrastructure work as well as traffic management and movement within the Federal Capital Territory.

He appealed to the FCT Minster for approval for a new Department of Policy and Planning to achieve a centralized policy planning, and coordination for all the departments and for the FCT.
