A Sensitisation training for Journalist covering covid - 19  The training which attracted a number of 50 Journalists from the print, radio, television and online media was held at the Banquet Hall Government House, Yola on 31st March 2020.



Nigeria Union of Journalists Adamawa State Council, Journalists Against Polio (JAP) & Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) in conjunction with ADSPHCDA & UNICEF host covid-19 media sensitisation training on covering, reporting and programming on covid-19.



The Secretary to Adamawa State Government who is also the Chairman of Covid-19 containment Committee, Engr. Bashir Ahmad in his address at the workshop said, the Government have put in all necessary efforts to ensure a proper and satisfactory isolation center in the State, which will is located at the German Hospital, Yola. The State is also adequately prepared for any eventuality. 



He added that the facility will serve as containment and isolation centers, noting that persons that are suspected to carry the virus are usually attended at the containment center unit while those who cases were confirmed are treated at the isolation centre.


Bashir urged Journalists in the State to come together and help the citizens disseminate timely and accurate information for the good of all without causing causing any panic.



The Hon. Commissioner for Health, Professor Abdullahi Isa said that the State has taken the challenge fully and wholeheartedly, a committee is set up by the Government, to help in this period that the world is faced with such a serious pandemic and he believed with such experts, the work will be done properly.



Dr. Umar Garba Pella, the Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Information and Strategy, on his part said that the engagement is very significant considering the scourge that the world at large is confront with. He said the society has a war to fight, hence the need to have right weapons to effectively confront the pandemic is needed, stressing the need for partnership and dissemination of  information that won't cause panic to the general public.



Earlier on, the Executive Chairman Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Batulu Ahmed said that the engagement is targeted at educating media workers on the need to disseminate information to the public without causing panic or stigmatisation.


To also sensitise the media on right information on corona virus and also to engage the media to take a responsibility of being a core component of covid-19 intervention.



A presentation was also made by Dr Pembi Emmanuel Virologist and also a presenter from WHO.
