Welcome To The Official Blog Of Adamawa Ministry Of Information

The Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has disclosed that his administration will collaborate with the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Water Resources, to make the Kiri Dam more beneficial to the wider communities in Adamawa State by dredging it.

The Kiri Dam is located in Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State, in northeastern Nigeria. It is a 1.2-kilometre-long, 20-metre-high zoned embankment dam with an internal clay blanket. The dam's construction was mainly completed in 1982. The reservoir has a capacity of 615 million cubic metres.

Over the years, the dam blockage has caused flooding, destroying farmland and houses.

Governor Fintiri made the promise while responding to a request from the Guyuk Community Development Association during a courtesy call at the Conference Hall, Government House Yola.

He announced that the previous administration had made efforts to develop the dam to generate electricity but this resulted in litigation with the Federal Government, which constructed the dam.

Governor Fintiri thanked the Guyuk community for the overwhelming support they have given his administration and assured them that his administration will embark on numerous projects in Guyuk LGA to reciprocate the community's support.

He said that his administration has revived Adamawa and put it on a path of progress with development projects that even the opposition parties are praising.

He commended the Guyuk community for embracing peace in the area. According to Governor Fintiri, this is the first term since he became Governor of Adamawa in 2019 that there have been no crises over farmland in Guyuk. He urged them to maintain peaceful coexistence, stressing that his government's security measures have curbed the menace of criminal elements in the state, allowing residents to sleep soundly.

Governor Fintiri admonished his political appointees in Guyuk LGA to carry everyone along in the development of the community and the entire state.

He encouraged the people to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming local government elections, stating that the people have every reason to vote for the PDP because of the development it brings to the state.

A delegation from the Guyuk Development Association, led by Ibrahim Welye, congratulated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on his re-election to a second term in office. He praised the public's decision in voting him for the second time in office, citing his impressive achievements and well-deserved recognition as the best Governor for infrastructure in Nigeria; an award he received twice from the federal government.

Welye commended the Governor for his infrastructure development projects, which benefit both citizens and tourists. He highlighted that these improvements had also extended to local government areas.

Welye expressed appreciation for the Governor appointing people from his region and for his unwavering support for the paramount ruler of Lunguda.

Following his praise, Welye made several requests. These included upgrading the Guyuk Cottage Hospital to a general hospital, dredging the Kiri Dam, and converting some schools into boarding schools to better support the government's educational reforms.
Member representing Guyuk/Shelleng Federal Constituency, Kobis Ari Thimnu, also lauded Governor Fintiri's leadership, acknowledging the numerous achievements it has brought to the state.
