Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with EU/UNICEF has officially flagged off maternal child health social protection scheme. The social protection scheme will be implemented using conditional cash transfer  (CCT).

In his welcome address at occasion, the Executive Chairman Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Abdullahi Dauda Belel said the Social Protection  Programme was designed to provides financial incentives to pregnant women enrolled to attend key health services such as antenatal, skilled  delivery, and  postnatal care services.

Dr. Belel added that the aims of  program is  to promote retention throughout the continuum of care with its associated health benefits. In total, pregnant women may receive up to N 5,000 from their 1st antenatal care (ANC) Visit up to postnatal care.
Dr Belel commended the present administration under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow for his efforts in transforming health sector.

“ with the support primary healthcare is getting from  Adamawa state Government and partners, 216  PHC  out of the 226 Political Wards are now providing 24/7 service delivery, 21 Health Facilities were upgraded to centres of excellent with the capacity to provide emergency obstetric and neonatal care."

In his remarks,  the European Union delegation Leader Dr. Anthony Ayeke said EU has been collaborating with Adamawa State Government for several years especially in the areas of Health, nutrition, water, sanitation, HIV/AIDS and Birth registration.
Dr. Ayeke added that eu/unicef support to Scale – up maternal newborn and child health outcomes project was launched in 2013, social protection scheme program is one of the implementation components of the project.

With the funding support from European Union, Adamawa State health sector has recorded the following achievements:
Improved planning and coordination in the sector by supporting the development of 2016-2020 state health strategic plan, development of annual operational plan and Minimum Package of Activities(MPAs) for health facilities service delivery, quarterly integrated supportive supervision of health facilities
Improved access to quality service delivery in which 450 health workers were trained on modified  life saving skills (LSS), Integrated Management of Childhood  illnesses (IMCI) and community based newborn care services.

Flagging-off the program, her Excellency Hajiya Maryam Muhammad Umar Jibrilla Bindow said implementation of social protection scheme program in the state represents a giant stride of government and the collective efforts of our partners towards checkmating all health challenges affecting mothers and their newborn babies in the state.

“ Let me reiterate that, Adamawa State under the leadership of my dear husband, distinguished senator Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow has been at the vanguard efforts towards transforming the social and psychological lives of the people."

Her Excellency added that the present government by its development antecedents is fully committed to the provision of all necessary1 political will and support that will guarantee protection of health especially for women and children. She pray for God guidance and protection to all partners involved in implementation of the laudable program aimed at salvaging the deteriorating health status of women and their newborn babies.

In his votes of thanks, the Executive Chairman Fofure local government council Alh. Aliyu Wakili Boya thanked the partners for the laudable initiative and promised his total support towards the successful implementation of the program.
