Adamawa State Planning Commission in collaboration with Adamawa State Sustainable Revenue Enhancement Programme (ADSREP) have today being the 2nd February 2017 sensitized all Accountants and Financial Officers of NGOs operating in the state on how to generate income revenue through the payment of taxes.

The sensitization exercise was conducted at the office of the Permanent Secretary of the Commission Mrs.  Justina Sebastian Patrick with all the Directors in attendance .

The ADSREP Officials that conducted the exercise are;  I. B Gashinbaki of Global Partner / CEO,  Augustine B Sandamu ( Dir  Corporate and Communication BIR), Obinna Okolie (Engagement Management),  Suzanne Miyada (DCP) and Fakuta Joseph (BIR).

Mr Okolie clarified more on Withholding taxes because most of the NGOs in the state are not profit making Organizations but rendering humanitarian services. On the other hand,  Gashinbaki said that this sensitization is the beginning in the state.

At the end of the exercise,  the NGOs were able to figure out that they don't actually pay income tax but they help the state Government to collect and generate taxes. However,  this can be clearly seen as thus; taxes collected on behalf of the State Government include license and levies for services and the body that pays it are the staff who operates under the law ie health / medical,  vehicles etc NGOs/DA ensure that the proper licenses are maintained and are up to date.

Lastly,  the Permanent Secretary,  Mrs Justina Sebastian Patrick in her closing remark appreciated the efforts of all the NGOs present and had also commended the Consultants for their tremendous contributions in ensuring that the mission of  ADSREP is brought to limelight. She also called on all to maintain President Buhari's call on"Change Begins With Me ".
