The Justice Sector Reform Team; JSRT held its first meeting yesterday at the State Secretariat, Ministry of Justice’s Conference Hall.

The meeting was majorly to ensure that a good foundation on which the team would build on is established and that members of the team have a deeper and clearer understanding of the structure, mission, goals and purpose that the Reform team sets out to achieve.

It was graced by some of its members, with the Hon. Attorney General also in attendance.

A brief introduction about the general outlook of the team was given by Barr. Hapsatu Hamma Abdullahi, the Adamawa state coordinator of Rule Of Law and Anti – Corruption (ROLAC). It was followed with a presentation by the Hon. AG, themed; ” Justice Sector – Problems and Prospects”.

In his presentation, the AG outlined certain challenges that have consistently plagued the Justice sector in Adamawa state and also went ahead to suggest the most possible and viable ways to ensure that a new Justice system re – emerges. He encouraged team work and welcomed progressive ideas amongst team members and stakeholders alike in the system. He drew his presentation to a close with words from Alan K. Simpson (a former United States Senator) who said, “If you have integrity, nothing else matters, if you don’t have integrity nothing else matters”. With these self – explanatory words he encouraged transparency at all times.

Few questions were asked and several contributions were made by members of the team. Most of the contributions circled around the need for transparency amongst the entire stakeholders under the justice sector and the need to allow new incentives that will propagate growth.
