The Minister, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has called on religious and community leaders to work with government to fight the scourge of drug abuse in the country.

Malam Bello made the call when he received members of the Jamiyyatu Ansariddeen society (Attijaniyya) who paid him a courtesy call in his office further reiterating that the   war against drug abuse and its effects should not be left to government alone.

The Minister said the FCT Administration would gladly lend its support to activities of religious bodies aimed at fighting the menace as well as other social vices in the FCT.

He also urged the Attijaniyya group to use its widespread influence in the society to preach tolerance and peaceful co-existence as well as educate followers on the need to be law abiding at all times.

While commending the group’s orderliness in its affairs, the Minister urged it to give more attention to its contributions towards security in the country. He also promised FCTA’s support for the group’s interfaith activities, which he described as commendable.

“Your efforts at ensuring peace through interfaith activities are really commendable. FCTA will support you in any way it can” he reiterated.

Earlier, the leader of the group and its National Secretary Sayyadi Muhammad Al-Qazim Yahaya, said the group was established primarily to mobilize the Muslim Ummah for productive purposes as well as promote education and international cooperation among different faiths.

While commending the Minister for the completion of abandoned projects and opening up new road networks in the FCT, Sayyadi Yahaya solicited the support of FCTA in the group’s interfaith activities to engender peace in the FCT.

He also solicited the collaboration of FCTA in its other humanitarian works aimed at bringing succor to indigent residents.
