The Chairman Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission Mallam Isa Shettima directed for a release of 90 days Local Councils Election notice.
It be recall that, the 21 Local Government Council in the state were formally dissolved on the 8th December, 2021 inline with the legal provision of two years tenure.
The Commission had earlier proposed 4th December 2021 for the conduct of local councils election with a view of enabling the elected Members to take over from the incumbent on the 8th December, 2021. Regrettably, the prevailing circumstances before and during the period, namely the destruction of reusable election materials by " End Sars" demonstrators, conversion of voting points into polling units and registration of new voters by INEC among others, increased our election estimate far and above the 2021 State budget provision for the said elections. It was for these reasons that the preparations for the local Government council elections slated for 4th December, 2021 were suspended.
Ultimately, the State Government has made adequate provisions for the State Electoral Commission to proceed and conduct elections into the 21 Local Government councils in the state. It is in this regard that the Adamawa state Independent electoral commission is hereby giving 90 days election notice to all Registered Political Parties (RPP) in the state, Commencing from 10th January, 2022 to 9th April, 2022 as required by the local Government Electoral Law.
Details about the election will be provided in due course.
