Tragedy struck in Gamadio, a community in Numan Local Government Area, as a boat conveying at least five passengers capsized on Monday, 11th December, 2023.
At least two people lost their lives while three were rescued, following a boat mishap that occurred in a river in Gamadio community of Numan local Government Area.
While on a fact finding visit, Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta insisted on the enforcement of the use of life jacket by canoe users for the safety of water transportation.
The Adamawa State Government who has its people at heart stormed Numan to have first hand information on the ugly incident.
The Deputy Governor Professor Keletapwa was received by the Chairman, Numan Local Government Area, Christopher Sofore where she challenged relevant Agencies to ensure the provision and enforcement of the use of life jackets by canoe users to minimize the loss of lives and property during such eventuality.
Professor Farauta advised the stakeholders to always ensure timely report of such incidents to police and other relevant authorities.
The State Government according to her will continue to come up with policies towards ensuring the safety of lives and property on waterways.
Earlier, the Chairman, Numan Local Government Area, Christopher Sofore informed the Deputy Governor that out of the five people on board, three were rescued while a woman with child are still missing.
Reports indicate that a rescue and search mission is ongoing to recover the two other bodies.
