The  North East Development  Commission  (NEDC ) in Collaboration with  Adamawa State  Government has organised  a five  days training  workshop on mitigation of effects of  climate change in the  North East. 
Participants  were  drawn from various  MDA'S  across Adamawa State held at the COEASU Hall of the  Federal  College  of Education Yola.

The  Training workshop  was on development of  climate change adaptation, awareness campaign including  alternative  energy  for energy  efficiency in which about  One hundred  participants were in attendance. 

While  declaring the  Training  workshop  open, the  acting  coordinator of the North East  Development Commission  in Adamawa State  Hajiya  Fatima  Isma'ila  Bakari  said that enabling a protected  environment  in the  North East  region is one of the pillars of the  sensitization and awareness  on climate change. 

She  revealed that  NEDC  is trying to  achieve that  through the implementation of various environmental programmes. 

In his remarks , the Honourable  Commissioner  Ministry of  Environment  Mohammed  Sadiq  Mohammed who was ably  represented by the  head of administration  said that the  training  workshop  has come  at a time  when all efforts  were needed to educate the  people  to play  their  role in sensitising the  public on the effects and dangers of  climate change. 

During the week long  workshop, participants were grouped into syndicates to brainstorm on the causes, effects and  recommends on climate change  mitigation on environment.
 
Environmentalists and  other  resource  persons  have  enumerated the  effects and dangers of climate change  on environment  as affecting the lives of  humans and other creatures on earth. 

At the end of the Training workshop  communique was issued :
*  There is  need for a  sensitization on climate change  to all citizens especially those at the grassroots level through  advocacy campaigns and  rallies. 
*  Adamawa State Government  should provide  affordable and sustainable  sources of  renewable energy  and alternative  source of  energy such as Solar, Briquettes  stove,  Biogas,  Gas Cylinders to citizens in the  state 
*  Government in Collaboration with NEDC  should embark on sustained  afforestation programmes, that is to provide seedlings and encourage rewards planting ofTrees by individuals and  communities and to  make it mandatory upon Estate developers and Road  construction  companies within the  state. 
*  Government to Re- in forced  monthly  Environmental  sanitation exercise with a  robust monitoring  compliance by individuals and  communities.
*  Government  to encourag the use of composed and organic  fertilisers as  against pesticides which affects Land as well as the  climate. 
*  Adamawa State Government  should be  at the forefront  to galvanised  support for the  construction of  buffer  Dams  along River  Benue  to mitigate the effects of  flooding from Lagdo  Dam and also  to dredge River Benue  as well as to promote  irrigation  through out the  state. 
*  Government in partnership with  companies  to promote the  establishment of  companies  for production  of paperbags, Cups, Plates and also ban the  use of polythene  bags,  sterio  forms and plates which pollutes the  environment and it takes time to  decomposed. 
*  Government  should  vehemently  reinforced  the Law  on deforestation with a more  severe  sanctions  to defaulters, alternative occupation  for individuals who are  into charcoal  and firewood  business  and alternative source of livelihood be provided  to those people  in order to mitigate  climate change. 
 * That  Adamawa State Government  and NEDC  should  recognised  all the  participants to serve as  climate change  advocates in their respective  communities  within the state  as will be involved in  monitoring  to check mate  indiscriminate activities that causes climate change within the state.
