REPORT ON THE TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON INTEGRATED EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT (IECD). HELD AT CAPITAL SCHOOL YOLA ON THE 17TH- 21ST AUGUST, 2015.

The Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB) under the Department of Quality Assurance has organized yet another important training for Primary school Teachers on Integrated Early Childhood Development (IECD) in order to educate and equip them on capacity building.

It is interesting to know that IECD used to be an organized foundation in the hands of private individuals where by fees are being charged for the services rendered. But, today, government has welcomed the operation of Early Childhood Development in the main stream schooling activities. However, the government has resolve to create an enabling environment for the Nigerian child to thrive and develop to fullest potential in line with the national goal and aspiration of building a “ land full of bright opportunities’’.

The Director of Quality Assurance Mallam Saidu Komsiri in his welcome address said, the training is aim at fast tracking the holistic implementation of Basic Education Programme as encapsulated in the UBE Act 2004 and the compliance to education for all convention within Nigeria as a signatory.

 On the other hand, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Alhaji Bashir D. Tukur in his Goodwill message said, educating a child at an early age is a good enterprise and the benefit of which cannot be quantified. He also added that the responsibility of educating the children should not be left in the hands of the government alone because it is the responsibility of all.

However, the Ag. Ex. Chairman of ADSUBEB Alh. Ayuba Njidda in his keynote address reminded all that the Federal Govt. of Nigeria had launched a National Policy for the Integrated Early Childhood Development (IECD) on October 8, 2007 and that UBE took off the programme in the next 3 years.

The participants are selected teachers from 21 Local Govt. Areas across the state.
The objectives of the training includes;-

  • ·         To be able to explain the concept ECD
  • ·         To be able to state steps involve before setting up ECD center
  • ·         To be able to explain the roles and responsibilities of government in the establishment of ECD
  • ·         To be able to enumerate some of the records used in the ECD
  • ·         To be able to mention the strategies use in the teaching/learning exercise at ECD centers
  • ·         To be able to itemize the purpose and objectives of ECD
