Children’s Day Celebration is an annual event celebrated every 27th of  May  of the year in Nigeria since 1963. Children in the state celebrated the day at Mahmud Ribado Square. The theme of this year’s celebration is “PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN AGAINST VIOLENCE AND INSECURITY; END CHILD MARRIAGE” This theme is chosen to sensitize the general public on the protection of children from violence, abuse and raise awareness on ending child marriage in Nigeria. In line with Mr. President’s declaration of 2016 as the ”year of action to end violence in Nigeria”. And the African Union Campaign to “End Child Marriage in Africa”.

In a welcome address, the Hon. Commissioner Ministry For Women Affairs, Social Development and Integration. Alh. Aliyu Bello Tola appealed to the invited guests to be vanguards in the campaign  to  end child marriage in our society, and also provide a conducive  environment, safe and  secure for our children.

In his remarks, the deputy Governor of Adamawa State. Mr. Martins Babale, urged the pupils  to  be  good  ambassadors of the state. He also called on parents to give their children  good moral upbringing in order to be good citizens  of  the  state.

Gifts were presented to winners of children match  pass.Where Rumde Primary School emerged as 1st,  Mustafa Yola Model 2nd  and Old G.R.A 3rd  in Post Primary Schools section  Gwadabawa Secondary school  emerged 1st,  Doubeli Secondary School 2nd  and  GMMC Yola 3rd.
Cheques of N 250,000 were presented to each of the ten (10) deserving pupil by Zenith Bank plc as scholarship. 


Similarly, her Excellency wife of the Executive Governor of Adamawa State Hajiya Maryam  Muhammad Umar Jibrilla, organised a Garden party to the celebrants ,at Banquet Hall, Government  House where she wined and dined  with them. In a brief remarks Haj. Maryam urged  the children to be dedicated to their studies and shun away from drug abuse and violence in the  society. She also said that the present Government will ensure that the rights of children in the state are protected.

The  sum of N250, 000 was also presented to the state Orphanage by Union Bank of Nigeria  plc.

In a vote of thanks the Permanent Secretary, Ministry For Women Affairs,  Hajiya Maisaratu  Bello,  applauds the efforts of Her Excellency Haj. Maryam Bindow, for ensuring that this year’s Children’s Day Celebration is a successful one. She also thanked the Management of Union Bank plc for their kind gesture.

There was a dance competition among the children where best dancers received prizes.

Responding on behalf of the children, a pupil from Rumde Primary Secondary School, Alisabatu Enoch expressed her profound gratitude to the state government for supporting the success of the programme.  
Those who attended the programme are; Deputy Governor, SSG,  Head of service, members of State House of Assembly, Hon. Commissioners, Service Commanders, Permanent Secretaries, Members of Boards and Parastatals, Parents/Guardians etc.
