Adamawa State Ministry of Health and State Primary Health Care Development Agency has officially flagged off the 2016 Maternal New-born and Child Health Week.
In his welcome address the Council Chairman Mayo-Belwa Local Government Malam Muhammadu Bakko thanked Ministry of Health and State Primary Health Care Development Agency for choosing Mayo-Belwa as Flagg off venue and promised to mount massive mobilization that will encourage turn out.
Malam Bakko said his doors are open for all request that will strengthen the implementation of the campaign exercise.
In his welcome remarks the Executive Chairman Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Abdullahi Dauda Belel said the main objective of Child Health Week is to contribute to health systems strengthening through improved promotion, delivery and utilization of health and nutrition services by women and children. Other specific objectives are to increase the coverage of MNCH interventions, improve the capacity of health workers to deliver good quality services and to improve facility based health seeking behavior of our people.
Dr. Belel added that to ensure successful conduct of the campaign exercise, Adamawa State Government has supported Primary Health Care Development Agency with necessary logistics to facilitate training of various cadres of Personnel at State, Local and Ward levels.
“State supervisors from Ministry of health, Agency and partners have been posted monitor and supervise the implementation exercise in all the 21 Local Government Areas in the State.” He said
Belel call on all Health workers and other personnel participating in this campaign exercise to ensure that the aim and objectives of the campaign are fully achieved.
In her remarks the Honourable Commissioner State Ministry of Health Dr. Fatima Atiku Abubakar said due to the unacceptably poor maternal and under-5 health indices in the country and urgent need to interrupt and reverse the trend, Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Council on Health (NCH); adopted the bi – annual activity.
“Throughout the implementation week High impact, cost effective lifesaving interventions and services will be rendered to pregnant women and under-5 children at the primary health facilities in all the 21 LGAs, if successfully implemented, It will improve facility based health seeking behavior our people.” She said
Dr. Fatima assure parents and care givers that the interventions are safe and cost effective, and will boost the immune system of their children.
In her speech to flag-off the campaign, Her Excellency Mrs. Miracle Martins Babale commend Ministry of Health, Primary Health Care Development Agency and partners for putting up the campaign despite the dwindling resources.
“Let me use this forum to call on well-to-do individuals and organisations to support good programmes like this because government alone cannot do everything.”
The present Administration under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibirilla Bindow is highly committed to the health of children and pregnant women and will do everything humanly possible to transform the sector to international standards she conclude
In his goodwill message, the State Coordinator W.H.O pharmacist Iyobosa Igbinovia call for more collaborative efforts to laudable programmes like this are successfully implemented in Adamawa state.
