The Christian Association of Nigeria Adamawa State chapter has called on all meaning individuals and organizations to support any course that will restore lasting peace in the land by being against sponsoring, equipping of the said herdsmen by their sponsored.
The state Chairman of the association, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza made the call Wednesday during a Press Conference held at the State Catholic Secretariat. Bishop Dami explained that violence associated with herdsmen in the state has assumed a worrisome dimension and the association insists that it is unacceptable and enough is enough.
The CAN Chairman noted that this is happening at a time when public confidence in Federal and state Government politicians which will guarantee security of citizen is eroding at an alarming rate. He used the medium and called on state Government to caution its officials on unguarded utterances during and after conflicts and then ask Government to stop the unfortunate development as extremism seems to have taken a new dimension with the armed herdsmen burning down churches.
More so, he added that what is more worrisome is the fact that in all instances of the attacks carried out, there have been sufficient alarms raised far long before but a decisive action is yet to be taken by concerns authorities to avert it. The CAN Chairman also called upon Government to work around the current committee setup on this matter to work objectively and ensure that previous reports on farmers and Hernsmen are implemented .
Lastly, he said that Christianity teaches us all the rudiments of peace building and harmony and he charged Christians to be more vigilant, law abinding and prayerful as we look upon God to bring lasting solution to these troubles.
