Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the release of Eighteen prisoners serving various jail
terms in five different correctional facilities across Adamawa State in commemoration of the Nigeria’s 59th
Independent Anniversary.
In a statement signed by the Director-General Media and Communications Government House Yola,
Solomon Kumangar and made available to Journalists said that the release of the prisoners is in
pursuant of the Governor’s power of Prerogative of Mercy.
The statement reads in parts:
“In commemoration of the Nigeria’s Fifty-Ninth Independence Anniversary, His Excellency Governor
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has signed an Executive Order approving the release of Eighteen (18)
Prisoners serving various jail terms in Five (5) different correctional facilities across Adamawa State.
“This is pursuant to the Governor’s powers of Prerogative of Mercy, under section 22 (i) (d) of the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.Documents giving effect to the Executive Order have
already been dispatched to the correctional facilities that include Numan, Yola, Ganye, Jada and
Kojoli Correctional Services”.
