Adamawa State Contingents to the North East Zonal elimination in
team events in Maiduguri, Borno State arrived Thursday 23rd January, 2020
and played only the evening matches and was walk
over at the morning matches due to late arrival. The walk over affected
the high rated Adamawa Team and robbed it the opportunity to win in
some major events they are best known for.
Team Adamawa however
qualified in both The female handball and Basketball to represent the
zone at the National Sports Festival in Edo State.
The acting Director
of Sports Adamawa State, Mrs Esther Dominic said Sport Directors in the
zone will sit down and workout ways towards addressing the walk over issues
and see how only the best teams in the zone represents it at the forth coming Festival in Edo State. And, not just award marks base on
walk over.
Esther Dominic thanked the ATM Governor,
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for making it possible for the State to participate
at the Zonal elimination in Borno State.
The North East Zonal Coordinator of the National Sports Commission, Mohammed Kabir Datti said
the North East Zonal elimination commenced the same time in the Six Geo-Political Zones on the 21-1-2020 and ends 24-1-2020. Datti says Five States in the North East have participated except Bauchi and no reason was
given.
He said Adamawa and Taraba came late by arriving on the second day
of the tournament, but played their remaining marches after several walk
over. The Zonal Coordinator, thanked the Governors of the five States
that made available their teams to be part of the north east family at
the elimination and appealed them to make funds available to their
team's to the National Sports Festival in Edo State.
Team Adamawa were
escorted from Yobe State to Maiduguri by a combined military and
para-military forces and are expected to do same Saturday 25-1-2020 back
to Yobe due to security reasons along Yobe and Maiduguri roads.
