Following the confirmation of second case of coronavirus (CONVID 19) in Nigeria, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has inspected isolation centre set for COVIC 19 in Yola the State capital.
Fielding questions from newsman shortly after inspecting the facilities at Specialists Hospital Yola, Governor Fintiri said that the State has taken precautionary measures in handling the case of the virus that has become a global phenomenon.
The Governor applauded the quick respond by the State Ministry of Health with provision of a befitting isolation centre. “I am quite certified with the facilities; they have done an excellent job. I gave directives to the Commissioner of Health through the Medical Director of Specialists Hospital Yola.
“And here we are today, they set up a centre with 18 beds an with specialised people, with an ambulance with specialise driver to take care of any eventuality as a result of the pandemic disease call coronavirus or CONVID 19 as the World Health Organization scored” Governor Fintiri lauded Ministry of Health.
Responding to the self-preventive enlightenment measure taken by the State, Governor Fintiri said that the ministry of Health has gone into campaign as how to prevent contact with the virus particularly on good hygiene information dissemination
He therefore call on the citizens of the State to be very concern about the deadly disease and they should imbibe the culture of good hygiene so as to prevent the spread to Adamawa.
On his part, the Medical Director, Specialist Hospital, Yola Dr. Dauda Wadinga said that all is set to equip the coronavirus isolation centre with monitoring machine, 18 bed capacity centre and an ambulance with state of the art facilities.
The MD advised the general public to adhere to the advise of health professionals on coronavirus preventive measures while calling on them to avoid sitting in an enclosed place with people who have symptoms and ensure they wash their hands on regular basis with alcohol.
According to Worldometer, as of 9 March 2020, 114,022 cases of coronavirus were recorded globally while 4,002 people died with the virus, 62,834 patients have recovered and 47,186 are currently infected.
China has the highest people with 80,739 who contacted coronavirus and 3,120 death followed by Italy with 9,172 cases and 463 death.
In Africa, Egypt recorded the highest with 55 and one death toll; Algeria has 20 cases, South Africa has 7, Tunisia has 5, Nigeria, Cameroon and Morocco each recorded 2 cases while Togo has one case.
