Concerne about the rising cases of drugs abuse among youths has converged communities leaders, religious leaders and Youths into a town hall meeting in order to draw a map in addressing the menace.
The event which was organised by a Non Governmental Organization NGO, Salama Women Association Mayo Bani to address domestic violence and drugs abuse with funding support from Managing Conflict in North East was held at mayo Bani in Mubi North LGA.
Mrs Monica Paul, the Chairperson of the Salama Group said looking at the rate at which the Youths in their communities engaged in drugs abuse made it necessary for them to have the Town Hall meeting in order to address it.
She explained that the manner at which their youths do drugs is worrisome hopped that with this kind of sensitization programme, it will be reduce to the bearest minimum.
Mrs Paul had appreciated the managing conflict in Nigeria and Global peace development for the support given to them to hold this programme urged them to maintain the spirit and appeal to the participants to reciprocate their gesture by being good ambassador of their communities.
In his welcome address,the Village Head of Mayo Bani who was represented by one Alhaji Bayo Bakari welcome the idea of holding the meeting by the Salama Women Association saying that the village Head of mayo Bani has been advising this youths to desist from taking the illicit drugs but all their efforts prove abortive.
Alhaji Bakari pointed out that with this sensitization programme, he pray it will address the menace, advice the youths to make good of the knowledge acquired for the overall development of their health and mayo Bani communities.
Highlight of the sensitization programme was a lecture on " Domestic Violence and Drugs Abuse" by the programme facilitator, Mr Richard Martin Sirante (RN) SNO Adamawa State University Medical Clinic, Mubi. It was followed by questions and answers session where both the youth and the elderly participated actively.
