Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with UNFPA organizes Town Hall Meeting with the Persons Living with Disabilities (PWD) to celebrate International Day for Persons living with disability, and also part of 16 days activism against GBV, at Women Development Centre.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Rifkatu Gwandi in her welcome address encouraged the participants not to feel rejected in the society as they are special human beings with different capabilities and have equal rights and opportunities like their counterparts. PWD are also Actors Against GBV in the State.
Director Rehabilitation Department in the Ministry, Mr Edward gave a paper presentation on GBV. He said that any violence that affects a person of a particular gender, results to GBV. Rehabilitation follows as way of restoring someone to health or normal life through training and therapy.
Good will messages were given by Mrs Grace Mamza of National Human Rights, and also Mrs Fara of Spring of Hope ,where she encouraged the PWD to be happy with their conditions and not to loose hopes in life.
In closing remarks, Mr Mackondo of the Women Affairs Ministry thanked the participants for honouring the invitation despite their difficulties in movement and wished them safe return to their places.
