The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged to support sporting activities aimed at developing sports in the territory.

FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, who made the pledge, Wednesday, 10thJanuary, 2019, when he received a delegation of the FCT Golf Association led by its chairman, Oladapo Rotimi Mohammed, appreciated the Association for demonstrating the capacity to host a tournament on its own, albeit with private partners.

Represented by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Sir Chinyaka Ohaa, the Minister expressed delight that of the 27 sports associations inaugurated in FCT in 2018, the Golf Association was taking the lead in initiating programmes that would further revive sports in the FCT, calling on other sports associations to emulate the FCT Golf Association.

The Minister supported the claim by the Association that one golf course was not adequate for the FCT, acknowledging that Abuja has grown and in need of more golf courses to service the Abuja Golf community and the training of new golfers.

While recounting the excellent outing of FCT in the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Abuja, where it placed 7th ahead of many sports power-houses in the federation, the minister reiterated his pledge to make FCT the hub of sports Tourism in West Africa.

He assured the association of FCTA’s support and presence during the planned golf tournament, charging the FCT Sports Department and that of Parks and Recreation to work with the association for a successful outing and the overall development of Golf sports in the FCT. The Minister also invited private sector participation in the development of sports in the territory.

Earlier, the association had said that its visit was to intimate the Administration of its planned tournament as well as seek for support and approval.

While congratulating the FCT for placing 7th in ahead of many sports power-houses in the federation, the minister reiterated his pledge to make FCT the hub of sports Tourism in West Africa.

He assured the association of FCTA’s support and presence during the planned golf tournament, charging the FCT Sports Department and that of Parks and Recreation to work with the association for a successful outing and the overall development of Golf sports in the FCT. The Minister also invited private sector participation in the development of sports in the territory.

While congratulating the FCT for placing 7th in the recently concluded National Sports Festival, the association expressed its desire to introduce golf to all segments of the society, adding that nothing short of 10 golf courses was adequate for the FCT.

The association also solicited for land for an FCT-own golf course to service residents of the territory.
