Adamawa state has recorded first index case of coronavirus with travel history from Kano.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri revealed this in a special broadcast, Wednesday at the Government House Yola.
The Governor said that the person who was tested positive for COVID 19 was a returnee from Kano State last week. Adding that the returnee presented himself to Specialist Hospital Yola after he experienced symptoms of sickness.
Governor Fintiri further explained that the returnee was isolated at the Specialist Hospital while his sample along side two others were taken for test.
The result of one of them came out positive Wednesday morning Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said. He said that Government has put on all apparatus to help the patience recover at the Isolation Centre located at the Specialist Hospital Yola.
He also revealed that his Government has commissioned a contract tracing mechanism to get all those that the patience have contact with so that they will be quarantined and tested.
The Governor announced to Adamawa people that they should get ready for a total lock down which he said he will make it public in due course. He said that the measure is to prevent and contain the spread of the pandemic while calling on the people not to be panic.
Governor Fintiri said that when Nigeria recorded cases of COVID 19, his administration has taken measures to prevent the spread of the virus to Adamawa; amongst the measures were lock down and closure of the State’s border.
While commending the security agencies in Adamawa for manning the its border, Governor Fintiri said that the State Containment Committee is working round the clock to ensure that the State is safe and the disease surveillance team is doing its job accordingly.
Governor Fintiri enjoined people of Adamawa to observe social distancing, personal hygiene and stay at home to prevent them from infecting the virus and call on all to join hand to fight the pandemic.
