The Honourable Commissioner for State Ministry of Information and Strategy Mrs. Neido Geoffrey Kofulto as well as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Solomon Kumangar led Information Officers, Staff of ATV, ABC, Government Printing Press on a road walk to mark  International Day for Universal Access to Information.

His Excellency  RT. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri represented by the Chief of Staff Government House Dr. Edgar Amos received the delegation at Government House today.


The Governor was delighted to receive the Commissioner and her team. He said, his Government is always open to access to information, that is why at the end of every State Executive Council meeting, the Media is always  briefed on the decision of the Government.

He added that his administration has probably appointed more Media aids than any Governor in the State, and is because he attaches a lot of importance to making the Citizenry aware of what the Government is doing.

Dr. Edgar Amos unbehalf of the Governor welcomed and identified with the International Universal Access to Information Day.

Earlier addressing the Governor, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr Solomon Kumangar stated some reasons for the Road walk which is ;To "Commemorate the International Day for Universal Access to
 Information". "Today being 28th September 2023, is a special day set aside by the United Nation to make access to Information a key aspect of human development and of human Right, we are here to express happiness and celebrate human right." Kumangar said.


The Commissioner Ministry of information and Strategy, Mrs Neido G. Kofulto earlier in her address reiterated that everyone around the globe have the fundamental to see and disseminate information, which also links to the right to freedom of expression.  Access to information plays vital role in development, democracy and Equality, it is necessary for making informed decision, engaging in Democratic government and citizens in having access to knowledge about how they are been governed, says Mrs. Kofulto.


She said journalists access to information is essential for their work  in informing the general public about topics of interest. The Media relay on ability to see and receive information making the right to universal  access to
 information bound up to the right to freedom of the stress. She explained that the general public access to information empowers individual to see, informed, participate in public discuss and hold their government accountable.

"Let us recognize and celebrate human right by promoting and protecting access to information, we can all contribute to more transparent inclusive and Democratic  society, Mr. Kofulto concluded.
