State2State: USAID Nigeria- State Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness in Collaboration with State Ministry of Information and Strategy Trains Information Officers on Governance

USAID collaborates Ministry of Information and Strategy to trained Information Officers on  Governance and Public Financial Management Thursday 20th September, 2023 at Duragi Hotel Yola.

The one day trainning objectives for the Officers is as follows;  to assess the level of implementation of their communication from previous workshop and identify any capacity gap,  review their use of governance command action tools- press releases, town hall meetings, media briefings, media tours; Provide technical support to Information Officers of the MDA's to curate clear, inclusive and interactive messages on Public Finance Management communication; ensure two way communications with adequate feedback from both the Government and Citizens;
Promote the effective implementation of the State communication  Strategy.

The facilitators were Mrs. Nneka Egbuna a Communication Specialist, Mrs Suzanne Myada Public Financial Management Specialist and Mrs Chabiyada Eli MEL Specialist.


Topics presented are: Refresher on previous training on Governance Communication, Inclusive Communication (including increased presentation of women), and conflict Sensitive Communication, for Public Information Officers;
Basics of Public Financial and State2State PFM interventions in the State (Implemented to date and Planned Interventions for year 4); Communicating PFM reforms and how best to get citizens participation and feedback.

Earlier, the State Team Lead, Mrs Suzanne Myada, in her opening address welcomed the participants and said that the  workshop was specifically designed for  Information Officers because of their critical role in communications and  if played effectively, it would contribute significantly to the success of State2State in Adamawa State.

Similaly, Mrs Suzanne reiterated on the two core objectives of the training which are: Public Financial Management and Citizens Engagement. She hoped that this training would be the beginning of mutual relationship between the State2State and the Information Officers, and added that the Communication Specialist,  Mrs. Nneka Egbuna will remain in touch with the participants to provide ideas before the State2State rounds up its five years activities because they are presently in their third year.
